The acquaintance between the designer and the client began with an appreciation for the designer鈥檚 earlier work, "elevision." When the client proposed transforming an abandoned villa, a five-year journey of design and construction was set in motion.
The project faced complex real-world conditions: the design underwent multiple rounds of adjustments due to property management coordination and neighborhood communication. Over a dozen team members contributed in succession, and the designer personally visited the site more than 200 times to oversee the progress.
The design team executed a complete spatial reorganization: the original interior structure and roof were demolished. From the garage and all rooms to the staircases and garden, the spatial logic was entirely reconfigured. The client's core requirements were clear: maximize the introduction of natural light and scenic views; select durable, high-quality materials; create distinct yet interconnected living units for four generations; establish a minimalist spatial quality akin to a boutique hotel; and craft an aesthetically pleasing exterior facade reflective of the designer's signature approach.
The final result was highly praised by the client鈥攅specially the elderly family members, who expressed surprise at the brightness and tranquility of the completed home.
The design highlights include:
飩仿稴everal five-meter-tall floating windows that blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, framing the external scenery as a continuous scroll of landscape.
飩仿稟 layered tactile experience created by teak grilles and an obsidian base under natural light.
飩仿稟 calm interior foundation established through unified off-white micro-cement and maple wood finishes.
飩仿稵houghtful functional zoning, such as an accessible elevator reaching a senior activity area, a tea room with a meditative window seat, and a private attic space鈥攅ach reflecting the complex needs of a multigenerational household that values both individual privacy and family connection.
This five-year endeavor affirmed a core design principle: a private residence is fundamentally a spatial vessel that accommodates the deep, multifaceted needs of its inhabitants鈥攅specially within complex family structures. When trust becomes the foundation of collaboration, the designer can move beyond stylistic surfaces and focus on solving fundamental spatial challenges.
