It's located at the midpoint of the axis between "Time Tower", which symbolizes the spirit of Shenzhen, and "Times Plaza", which represents the memory of Shekou. As a continuation of Times Plaza, Time Tower is an important landmark with both historical value and future prospects. It inherits Shekou's historical memory and cultural context, and is committed to creating a business giant.
The internationally renowned artist Atsushi Hashimoto’s works focus on expressing his life experiences. He believes that the significance of art is to closely connect the self with the outside world, human beings, nature, and society by establishing connections and channels. He is adept at exploring the relationship between man and nature through minimalist sculpture forms.
The artist believes that the sun nurtures everything and creates human beings, while the moon is unpredictable, hanging in the night sky, nurturing our body and mind. The sun and the moon alternate, forming the flow of time, which is eternal and unchanging from ancient times till now and even the future. Therefore, the Sun and the Moon, located between the TIME TOWER and the New Times Square, has a mirrored material in one side, symbolizing the rising sun, and a frosted material on the other side, symbolizing the vaguely visible moon. The contrast between the two materials represents a dialogue between the old and the new, and the eternal alternation between the sun and the moon.
Between the two sides symbolizing the sun and the moon are the ripples of seawater, signifying the elements in marine culture and local Shekou culture. Among them, the black ripples symbolizes the infinite life force, and the long history and accumulation of ancient Chinese bronzes. In this project, with the ripples sculpted by the artist himself as the prototype, and through the bronze casting process, we created and presented the undulating state and imagery of seawater in a sharp contrast with the smooth texture of the sun and moon, and conveying the unique impression of time in the Shekou area.
