In the early morning of September 3, 1973, a commuter ferry departed from Qijin Pier and suddenly capsized and sank during its voyage. All 25 victims were young, unmarried female workers.
The"25 White Roses of Qijin" pays tribute to the contribution of working women to Taiwan's economic growth through the ferry incident. The work transforms a sad historical event into reflection and hope for the future, and may their stories never be forgotten. The concept of the stage design - the turning horizontal line - symbolizes the boundary between life and death, between reality and memory. Visual art provides a wide flexibility for interpretation. This cross-disciplinary form of art presentation enables the audience to reconnect with the emotions of the land and delineate the many forms of life in a multilayered sensory experience. The work can be said to be heart-touching and meaningful. Further, the work raises questions about social justice and gender equality, which are important components of a sustainable society, by showing the contributions of working women to their families and society. It calls on the audience to recognize the role of each individual in promoting sustainable development and encourages a continued focus on equality, respect, and protection of the rights of the disadvantaged.
